The title, author, subject and keywords a PDF carries around with it — often the name of whoever drafted it, and often not what the file is called. Read them, change them, or clear the lot.

Details other tools get wrong
- The second copy. Most PDFs carry the same values twice: once in the document information dictionary and again in an XMP packet. Clear only the first and the name is still in the file, where any reader can index it. PDFMod removes both.
- The library’s fingerprint. The usual PDF libraries stamp their own name into Producer and rewrite the modification date the moment a file is opened — so you edit the title and quietly lose the real ones. PDFMod turns that off, everywhere.
- A password-protected file is refused, not quietly opened. Editing one means writing it back out, and the honest way to write out a document you had to decrypt is a document that is no longer encrypted. Handing you an unprotected copy of a file you deliberately locked is a downgrade nobody asked for, so PDFMod says no. Take the password off in Protect first, if that is what you want.
- Document properties are not the only place a name hides. Text in the pages themselves is untouched here — that is what Redact is for.
